A lightening strike in tinder dry conditions started a fire that has spread quickly on Whistler Blackcomb, one of the key sites for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
More than 400 people were evacuated from the mountains today as fire crews struggled to contain the fire and save what is surely among the best skiing and snowboarding resorts in the world.
Summer is normally a beautiful thing at Whistler and the upcoming B.C. long weekend is one of the busiest times at Whistler Blackcomb. The town typically swells to about 30,000 during the long weekend and this year that will be bolstered by the fact that nearly 6,000 more people than usual will be on hand for the 2009 World Police & Fire Games.
Let’s hope the fire crews get a handle on this blaze quickly. If you have any photos of the Whistler Blackcomb fire, or further details, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
