There is nothing quite like the moment you realize the enormity of the Rockies. Sure, they sound across a distance at various places along the horizon in the city of Calgary and even at places along the Number 1 Highway. But almost the minute you touch the fence of the Stony Reserve, maybe 30 minutes after you leave the city limits going west, you have to re-grip the wheel. It’s like steadying yourself after the wind has just rocked you a little harder than expected. It’s just the first echo of what has to be one of the most spectacular mountain ranges on the planet. I’m on the way to Lake Louise. Try to follow along.
